Dallas Firefighter Dies in Apartment Fire

Lt. Todd Krodle, a 17-year veteran of Dallas Fire-Rescue, died late yesterday when he fell through the roof of a burning apartment complex. Knowing that fire was spreading through the attic, Lt. Krodle began using a chainsaw to cut a hole in the roof in order to ventilate the fire and reduce the likelihood of backdraft. Tragically, the roof gave way as Lt. Krodle worked on it, causing him to fall to his death.

Firefighters face unique risks that include smoke inhalation, severe burns, and death. Injury and death is tragically common among public servants like firefighters and police officers.
