Fugitive hits police officer with car while trying to escape

A veteran Fort Worth police officer was injured this week when a suspect hit him with a car. A fugitive was behind the wheel of a Ford Taurus when he struck a surveillance vehicle, a marked patrol car and finally the officer while running from police. The man was wanted for two outstanding arrest warrants. The Taurus hit two other vehicles before arriving at an apartment complex where the fugitive lived. Police apprehended the man after he tried to escape again by jumping through a window. The officer who was struck was injured but is expected to make a full recovery.

Irving police officer injured in wreck

An Irving police officer was injured this weekend when a suspected drunk driver ran into his unmarked car on Texas Highway 161. The officer, who has not been identified, was treated at Parkland Memorial Hospital and has been released. The suspect, Francisco Tranquillo, is in custody at Parkland being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Fort Worth motorcycle officer injured during traffic stop

A Fort Worth motorcycle officer was injured Thursday morning when he was pinned between two vehicles while conducting a traffic stop. The officer had pulled over a minivan on Loop 820 when a passing SUV and 18-wheeler collided. The collision pushed the SUV into the minivan, pinning the officer between the vehicles. The officer was taken to an area hospital for treatment, and is expected to make a full recovery.

DPS trooper dies in Montague County wreck

A DPS trooper died in a wreck after his patrol car apparently hit a cow in the road. The accident occurred near Ringgold in Montague County, about 30 miles southeast of Wichita Falls. The trooper, Cpl. David Ralph Slaton, was on duty and traveling northbound on U.S. 81 when his car struck a cow. The force of the impact caused the car to veer into a southbound tractor-trailer rig. The tractor-trailer driver was not hurt.

Dallas police officer hurt in scuffle

A Dallas police officer was hurt early Sunday morning in a scuffle. The incident occurred in the Lower Greenville area about 4 a.m. The officer was taken to Baylor University Medical Center for treatment. Authorities have not released the officer's name. The suspect is in custody.

Convenience store clerk assaulted while thrwarting robber

A convenience store clerk was injured in an early morning attempted robbery today. Authorities say that the suspect entered the Kwik Stop on Martin Luther King Boulevard near I-45, grabbed the store's cash register and ran away. The clerk armed himself and chased after the suspect. The suspect then threw the register at the clerk, but kept the drawer containing the cash. The clerk caught up with the suspect and was hit with the drawer several times while recovering it from the suspect. The suspect was killed when the clerk's gun went off during the struggle. The clerk, who has not been identified, received treatment for his injuries.

Farmworker killed by bale of hay

A farmworker was killed when a large hay bale fell on him. The man was working in a pasture southwest of Mansfield, off of County Road 520. He was loading large round bales into a truck when one rolled off and hit him. Investigators say that a large round bale of hay weighs approximately 2,000 pounds.

Four injured in construction accident at University

Four people were injured recently in a construction accident at Yale University. The workers became trapped after a beam fell while the team was working to construct an air conditioner center. Two workers remain in critical condition. The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating.

Driver shot to death while working on limousine

A man was shot to death Thursday evening while making repairs to the limousine he drove for a living. The man, Brandon Nathan Campbell, 26, was working on the brakes of his vehicle in the 400 block of East Ramsey Avenue when a man drove up in a white compact car, got out of his car wielding a pistol, and shot Campbell. The shooter then fled the scene. Campbell died from his injuries.

Truck driver injured by apparent tornado

A truck driver was injured in Dallas Wednesday when an apparent tornado struck his vehicle. The driver was trapped in his cab when the storm suddenly swept through the city. Gulf oil platform fire injures 13, all survive

An oil platform in the Gulf of Mexico caught fire last week. Thirteen workers were aboard the shallow-water platform when the incident occurred. The rig is located approximately 100 miles south of Louisiana's Vermilion Bay. Unlike the BP / TransOcean explosion and spill that began in April of this year, no workers were killed and no oil was spilled. The thirteen workers jumped from the platform into the water, and were promptly rescued. All were taken to hospitals for treatment, and are expected to make full recoveries.

5th man arrested in connection with fatal shooting of convenience store clerk and delivery driver

A 5th man has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting of a convenience store clerk and also a delivery driver that occurred earlier this year. Video from the crime shows that the clerk, Daniel Rojas-Torres, gave the criminals a bag of money that had been hidden in a freezer but was eventually dragged to the back of the store where he was forced to sit in a chair and then shot in the head. Jerry Burnett, a delivery truck driver who was stocking shelves at the time the robbery occurred, was also shot and died from his injuries.

Truck operator injured in power line accident

A truck driver was injured Tuesday in an incident involving power lines in west Fort Worth. Investigators report that a commercial truck accidentally pulled down power lines. Electrical service to about 600 homes and businesses in the area near Camp Bowie Boulevard and Horne Street was disrupted.
