Arlington Man Electrocuted During Yard Work

Tragically, an Arlington man was electrocuted and died earlier this week during routine yard work when his hedge trimmer contacted a power line. His unexpected death raises important questions about the safety of yard equipment and the extent to which the City of Arlington and Dallas-area electrical service providers have marked power lines. In general, businesses that impose risks on customers and the public are responsible for putting the community on notice of those risks.

Fort Worth Victim of Police Brutality Settles Case for $400,000

Chad Gibson, a patron at Fort Worth’s Rainbow Lounge on a fateful night in June 2009, sustained a head injury when agents of the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC) and the Fort Worth Police Department allowed a bar inspection to turn violent. Mr. Gibson, among other patrons, was severely assaulted. After extensive negotiations, representatives for the City of Fort Worth and Mr. Gibson have reached an agreement to settle the matter, providing Mr. Gibson with $400,000 in compensation.

Apartment Fire in Lewisville Leave Several Families Temporarily Homeless

Last Saturday, a three-alarm fire destroyed a Lewisville apartment complex and forced several families and individuals to find hotel rooms and other lodgings. By the time local firefighters put out the blaze 24 units had been damaged and 18 tenants had been displaced. Current investigations into the cause of the fire include whether the apartment complex appropriately safeguarded citizens and their belongings.

The fire safety of apartment complexes is important. Your landlord is obligated to protect you against unsafe living conditions, including an unreasonable risk of fire. If you’re concerned about the safety of your apartment complex or if you’ve been displaced by an apartment fire, you might have a legal cause of action against the property owner and apartment complex management firm. Arlington Police Tase Innocent Bystander

For the second time in as many weeks, citizens are questioning the conduct of the Arlington Police Department. Yesterday, an Arlington police officer mistakenly tased Jonathan Pierce, a Navy veteran and innocent bystander. Standing at the wrong place at the wrong time, the officer tased Pierce because he believed him to be a fleeing suspect. However, except for the fact that Pierce and the suspect both were wearing basketball jerseys, no other connection tied the two men together.

Mr. Pierce’s treatment at the hands of the Arlington Police Department may constitute police brutality and a violation of Mr. Pierce’s civil rights. Police officers and municipal officials are not immune to legal action. If you’ve been harassed by local police, you may have a viable legal claim. Contact the personal injury experts today to learn more about how the team at Fears | Nachawati can fight for you. Dallas Police Crack Down on St. Patrick’s Day Revelers

Dallas’s 32nd annual St. Patrick’s Day celebration along Greenville Avenue continued its festive tradition, despite the increased presence of the Dallas police. Officers issued 21 citations for violations of the Dallas open container law, four public intoxication arrests and two DWI arrests, considerably more than in years past.

Alcohol-lubricated parties, such as last weekend’s St. Patty’s Day parade, are often not only a source of civil violations, but of injuries as well. Silver Dental Fillings Linked to Serious Injury

The Center for Devices and Radiological Health defended their use of silver dental fillings – which contain mercury – at a town hall meeting in Las Colinas last week. Dental amalgam fillings are legal, however, research has found that they have been linked to neurological and kidney damage. Some patients have suffered from toxic reactions that include seizures.

Worried that your silver dental fillings have led to injury for you, too? Arlington Man Wrongfully Accused, Imprisoned for Murder

Francisco Daniel Romero lost nine days of his life and faced the fear of punishment for murder because of a clerical error that remains unsatisfactorily explained. Pulled over for an expired inspection sticker, Romero had the misfortune of having a name similar to Francisco Javier Romero, a suspect in a 1999 shooting death. The Arlington police, who stand by their officers’ decisions, detained Mr. Romero despite the fact that neither a photograph nor a driver’s license number matched Mr. Romero to the suspect.

Civil rights violations constitute important civil causes of actions. Successful suits can frequently result in apologies from the offending institution and monetary damages. Denton County Invaded by Rabies Bearing Skunks

Increasingly, homeowners and experts are concluding that the west side of Denton, Texas, is inhabited by a growing number of rabies-infected skunks and other wildlife. In fact, the Texas Department of State Health Services has deemed Denton, Dallas, Tarrant Ellis, Kaufman, and Collin counties as a “hot rabies pockets.”

Rabies is no laughing matter. Rabies can cause serious harm to pets and humans. Actually, rabies is fatal if post-exposure prophylaxis is not administered prior to the setting in of serious symptoms. Man Shot at Dallas Nightclub

Last weekend a security guard at Pandora’s Men’s Club shot a man following a reported disturbance at 2:40 in the morning. The man, whose name has not been released, is in serious condition. However, he is expected to survive the gunshot wound.

The Dallas Police Department is investigating the disturbance, pending possible criminal charges. Nevertheless, it’s important to recognize that civil liability against both the shooter and Pandora’s Men’s Club may exist as well.

SUV Rollover Accident Takes Driver’s Life

Last week, a Fort Worth driver rolled his SUV, becoming trapped underneath and dying before CareFlite could transport him to a nearby hospital.

While its uncertain whether the driver was responsible for the accident, what is known is that SUVs are disproportionately likely to roll or flip in an accident. In fact, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) found recently that one-third of all vehicles involved in fatal crashes were SUVs and that rollovers are far more likely to cause serious injury and death as compared to normal crashes.

If you or a loved one has been involved in a rollover accident, you might have a case against the car manufacturer. Class action lawsuits play an important role in securing justice for victims who suffer from similar injuries, such as an improperly designed SUV.
