Yet Another Bike Rider Injured on Dallas Streets

A bicycle rider, 32 year-old Dallas Torres, is recovering tonight at Baylor University Medical Center from nearly fatal injuries he sustained as the result of a reckless driver and a poorly marked road.

The City of Dallas has recently built a beautiful new bridge. However, although there were millions for the new city landmark, City Council members report that there isn’t enough money to restripe the bike lane on the Jefferson Boulevard viaduct that connects Oak Cliff to downtown, the site of Torres’ serious accident.

Tragically, Mr. Torres’s accident isn’t even the first bicycle accident in Dallas this year. Moreover, as even City Council member Angela Hunt admits, thanks to poorly marked bike lanes throughout Dallas, today’s bike accident won’t be the last.

The combination of an indifferent City and careless driving substantially increases the risks that Dallas bike riders face. In fact, some bikers have begun wondering whether the City of Dallas’s failure to repave and re-paint certain highly travelled roads contributes to the negligence that is responsible for so many biking accidents.
