18-Wheeler Causes Wrongful Death, Family Receives $4.7 Million

A family in Beaumont, Texas, is finally on the road to recovery after suffering the unexpected and tragic loss of Santos Granja, a beloved husband and father.

Last year, Mr. Granja was resurfacing a road as part of his duties with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) when an 18-wheeler driver lost control of his big rig. The loss of control was momentary, but the effects were permanent. The 18-wheeler slammed into a nearby car and the car, in turn, struck Mr. Granja and four others.

The Granja family’s wrongful death suit finally concluded this week, with the jury awarding $4.7 million in damages to the family, including more than $2.7 million to Mr. Granja’s bereaved widow. Dedicated attorneys succeeded in bringing justice to Mrs. Granja and her children though skillful practice and a well-honed understanding of how trucking companies shield themselves from liability.
