Dallas Police Officer Kills Pedestrian

Beverly Kirk, a loving mother and grandmother, died this weekend when a Dallas police squad car failed to yield to her as she walked across the street. Although the police officer was travelling at a high rate of speed, there were two important things he wasn’t doing: flashing his lights or blaring his siren. As a result, Ms. Kirk was caught off-guard, trapped in the crosswalk, and struck unexpectedly.

Pedestrians have a right to the road. Unfortunately, even the people who should protect this right – D/FW’s police officers – often disregard it and endanger the rights of walkers, bystanders, and pedestrians. It’s not right; and it’s not permitted under the law.
