One Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) was killed and two of the victims co-workers were hospitalized after being overcome by carbon monoxide while on duty in the east Texas town of White Oak. Authorities believe that the carbon monoxide came from a generator that was left running on an ambulance. The ambulance was parked in a closed bay when the accident occurred. OSHA is investigating this accident. No carbon monoxide detector was installed in the building because the building itself runs solely on electric. Carbon monoxide detectors were installed in EMS facilities throughout east Texas as a result of this tragedy. The two injured EMTs are expected to make a full recovery.
