Bacon, Eggs, & Arsenic?

For years, you’ve heard that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. And juice, orange, apple, or grapefruit, is often the principal morning beverage, particularly for children. Consumer Reports and FDA, however, recently concluded a study that may cause you to rethink what you serve your children with their first meal of the day.

According to a Consumer Reports test of 88 apple and grape juice samples, including some of America’s favorite brands, ten percent of the samples contained levels of arsenic in excess of the federal standard for drinking water. A follow-up study by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) confirmed the general finding of the Consumer Reports study. FDA research determined that eight of 160 juice samples had arsenic amounts in excess of the FDA’s “level of concern.”
