A family in Fort Worth is grieving this week after a neighbor’s pitbulls attacked and killed two of their three daschunds. To add insult to their grief and mental anguish, the family had repeatedly petitioned their neighbor and the City of Fort Worth’s animal control to take more aggressive action to contain the pitbulls. Their successive efforts were unsuccessful – and the result was tragic and unfair.
Pitbulls are notoriously dangerous and aggressive dogs. Nationwide, they are responsible for hundreds of animal attacks every year, killing other animals, including household pets, and injuring people, particularly children. The owners of dangerous animals are responsible for these injuries; yet they often succeed in evading accountability.
