New Research Turns Road Rage Assumptions on Their Head

A Harris Interactive poll conducted between May and June of this year found that women, not men, were more likely to experience road rage. According to survey results, 61 percent of women surveyed admitted to experiencing road rage, compared to just 56 percent of men. These findings fly in the face of the conventional wisdom that men are more likely to lose their cool and damage other cars or injure other drivers as a result.

Increasingly, observers of highway safety are realizing that road rage is a problem on North Texas’s roads. Moreover, road rage may represent a new complication in civil litigation. Are you concerned that road rage may have played a part in your accident? Do you know how that may influence your legal rights or potential for recovery? Unlucky 21: The Drivers Most Likely in a Serious Injury Accident in Texas

Twenty-one may be lucky in Blackjack, but it’s the worst possible number for driving safety. In 2011, more drivers aged 21 were involved in serious accidents than any other driving age in Texas, according to statistics compiled by the Texas Department of Transportation. In fact, 21-year olds were more than twice as likely to be involved in a serious accident than drivers twice their age. Among Texas drivers, it turns out that experience really does come with age.

Unfortunately for many accident victims, age is not only positively correlated with the probability of being involved in an accident, but also the probability of being uninsured. What does this mean for Texas accident victims? It means that if you’re involved in an accident, chances are good that you may struggle to recover against the tortfeasor who negligently ran into your car, causing property damage and personal injury.

Fears | Nachawati knows what to do to protect accident victims against the carelessness and recklessness of young-and-dumb Texas drivers. Don’t let an uninsured motorist set you back permanently. Which Drivers Tend to Be Most Careless?

Academic research shows that not all drivers drive equally well. In fact, some groups of people tend to be considerably more dangerous than others.

On a list of the most careless or reckless drivers, young men are always at top. According to one study, Teen and senior drivers, men aged 16 to 19 are involved in 188 percent more crashes than the average driver. Although somewhat more careful than their masculine counterparts, teenage women aren’t much better, being involved in 134 percent more crashes than the average driver.

What does this mean if a teen driver was involved in your accident? While these empirical findings won’t prove liability in your particular case, they do suggest that it may be time to ask some challenging questions in order to determine whether the teen driver in your accident had both eyes on the road and both hands on the wheel. The academic research suggests that in too many cases, teen drivers don’t.

Speed, Driver Inattention Biggest Contributing Factors in Texas Crashes

Research from the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) concluded recently that in 2011 the most common contributing factors to automobile accident in Texas were excessive speed and inattention to detail. TxDOT examined more than 75 contributing factors to roughly 390,000 urban accidents last year and found that 35 percent of all urban accidents could be explained just by those two variables.

What does this mean if you’ve been in an accident? When the question of why arises, the first place to look for the answer is in the kind of conduct that TxDOT identified as most frequently playing a significant role. For accident victims, why an accident happened is often an important question for personal reasons. However, in the context of accident victims’ rights, this question is particularly important. In many cases, determining why an accident occurred is the key to establishing who is liable for the resulting damages.

Have you recently been involved in an accident in North Texas? If the answer is yes, you should speak with an attorney at the Dallas firm of Fears | Nachawati today. New Statistics Reveal Extent of Road Rage Accidents

Recently published statistically findings from the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) reveal what many automobile accident observers have been suggesting: road rage accidents account for a large and growing number of traffic incidents. In Houston alone, more than 900 accidents and five deaths were caused by road rage in the last five years.

The statistics are no different for Texas's other major cities. According to TxDOT, the counties with the highest number of road rage accidents were Bexar, Harris, Tarrant, Dallas, and Travis. And to add insult to personal injury, these are often frightening accidents. The majority of drivers who commit road rage accidents are young men between the ages of 16 and 29. Many exit their cars after an accident angry and, potentially, looking to commit further acts of violent. For many accident victims, such an after-accident altercation can be just as frightening as the accident itself.

Are you the victim of a road rage accident? If the answer is yes, the time to act is now, and the people to call are the attorneys at Fears | Nachawati. Road Rage: Are Intentional Accidents Different?

Tragically, at least four North Texans were injured today when an act of road rage near an elementary school resulted in a three-car collision that sent several drivers to the hospital.

Aggressive driving is a significant source of risk for D/FW area drivers. In fact, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has produced estimates that suggest road rage and aggressive driving are responsible for more than 1,000 fatalities every year. To make matters worse, one recent study found that people who talked on their cell phones were twenty percent more likely to drive aggressively than non-users. These data points suggest that as cell phone use continues to rise, aggressive driving will as well.

Most accidents occur because of careless driving. However, it’s important to recognize that in many cases a road rage accident is the product of an intentional act rather than a careless one. Intentional accidents are very different than true accidents. If you’ve been involved in a road rage accident, you should be aware that the legal reality you face might be considerably different than that of a typical accident.
