Speed, Driver Inattention Biggest Contributing Factors in Texas Crashes

Research from the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) concluded recently that in 2011 the most common contributing factors to automobile accident in Texas were excessive speed and inattention to detail. TxDOT examined more than 75 contributing factors to roughly 390,000 urban accidents last year and found that 35 percent of all urban accidents could be explained just by those two variables.

What does this mean if you’ve been in an accident? When the question of why arises, the first place to look for the answer is in the kind of conduct that TxDOT identified as most frequently playing a significant role. For accident victims, why an accident happened is often an important question for personal reasons. However, in the context of accident victims’ rights, this question is particularly important. In many cases, determining why an accident occurred is the key to establishing who is liable for the resulting damages.
