Two women from were killed last weekend when a teenage
driver of a big rig apparently lost control of his vehicle, slamming into the
motorists as they changed a flat tire on their car. Unfortunately, both
accident victims died at the scene.
Commercial vehicles are regulated by a byzantine set of
state and federal regulations. For instance, in some states people as young as
18-years old can drive big rigs so long as they stay within the borders of the
state. By contrast, federal law requires that interstate drivers be at least
21-years old. Likewise, whether a truck is a commercial vehicle can be a
challenging distinction as well. In last weekend’s tragic accident, for
instance, the rig has been characterized as both a farm vehicle and a
commercial vehicle.
Legal distinctions like these may seem small, but in many
cases they can have a big effect on the outcome. If you’ve been in an
automobile or trucking accident, you may need someone who understands the full
complexity that often attends state and federal law. Fortunately, the attorneys
at Fears | Nachawati are dedicated to this
complicated area of the law and are prepared to give you the advice you need.
