Another Accident Injures Police Officer

In less than a week, careless drivers have struck and injured two police officers in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Wednesday morning a Carrollton officer directing traffic was hit by a careless driver and pinned in his car. Fortunately, the officer’s injuries were non-life threatening. He is now recovering at Baylor University Medical Center.

Even though this week is unusually injurious for DFW police officers, the reality is that negligent drivers cause numerous injuries to police officers and law enforcement every year. These public servants deserve excellent legal protection in civil courts.

Police Officer Injured in Hit-and-Run Accident

Tragically, a police officer in Mesquite was injured today when a reckless driver struck him with his car. The accident was the result of an extreme kind of negligence: the driver, fleeing an earlier wreck involving an SUV, lost control of his car, striking the officer’s car as the official was in the midst of a customary traffic stop. Although the police officer was taken to the hospital, initial reports suggest that he is recovering quickly.

Concussion Summit in Dallas Raises Important Legal Issues

The University of Texas at Arlington will host a conference this weekend devoted to one of the most important health issues for teenage boys in Texas: concussions. With another football season less than six months away and growing discussion about the long-term effects of concussions, the conference is scheduled to highlight a number of findings related specifically to North Texas teens, including whether some young men are more susceptible to concussions than others.

Did your child suffer concussions during their high school athletic careers? Did their coaches and school administrators take the appropriate precautions to reduce the risk of injury and ensure that your child was medically ready to return to the field of play?

The questions are important to ask, particularly if your son has experienced specific post-traumatic symptoms. Your child had a right to safety. Tragically, many are learning that right may have been violated. They also want to know about their legal options.

DART Worker Injured by DART Vehicle

Early yesterday morning, a DART worker broke his leg when his car backed over him. The worker had stepped out of his car in order to open the HOV gate at Central and I-635.

Exactly who is responsible for the man’s broken leg is an issue that has sparked considerable debate. In situations like this, some experts point to the driver’s failure to set the car’s parking break as an instance of contributory negligence. However, others question whether the car was poorly designed or inappropriately used and suggest that the manufacturer or manager may be at fault.

Have you been injured while working at your job site? Even if you may have contributed to the injury you sustained, that doesn’t necessarily mean that you don’t have a right to recover. Five-Year-Old Dies in Hit-and-Run Accident

A red suburban struck three children Sunday, killing a five-year-old and sending her six-year-old cousin to the hospital with serious injuries. After hitting the children, the driver threw his SUV into reverse and sped away, but not before he hit a nearby car. Although the toxicology report has not yet been released, the circumstances surrounding the accident suggest that the driver was inebriated at the time of the accident.

Hit-and-run accidents are all too common and too often fatal. Whether the victim is a child, an adult, or a grandparent, the pain for the victim’s family and friends is always very real. What Are the Legal Consequences Associated with Your STD Infection?

For years, the incidence of HIV and AIDS has been on the decline. However, although that trend still holds true for most of the population, infection rates among African-American females age 13 to 18 show a disturbing change in this trend. This sub-category accounts for 25 percent of new HIV cases. More generally, 40 percent of all new cases are African American females. Dallas health experts have begun to raise the alarm, hoping to draw attention to this unsettling reality.

You may not realize it, but tort law has a role to play in the public health battle against sexually transmitted diseases. STD-infected citizens have an obligation to refrain from having sex with their partner if they haven’t disclosed their illness. In the eyes of the law, agreeing to sexual intercourse is very different from agreeing to accept the risk of infection. In many jurisdictions, a STD-infected sexual partner who fails to disclose his or her condition commits a battery when he or she has sex with an uninformed partner.

Has someone infected you with an STD or HIV? If they knew about their medical condition and failed to tell you, you may have a viable legal claim against them. To find out more about your legal rights, talk to the litigation and personal injury experts at Fears | Nachawati.
